I thought the snake set meal was quite nice, actually: snake spring rolls, snake curry and snake wine. And I drank one glass of wine from a bottle that also contained about 15 snakes.. and a dead blackbird. Mmm.
Well I was going to forward these pics to my vegetarian daughter but am having second thoughts now. The thought of eating a dead blackbird might have serious side effects on her digestive processes.
I'm told I should check that the snake didn't have any cuts before it was put in the wine, otherwise the wine will be toxic. Not quite sure how I check for that, so maybe I'll leave the snake wine. And I'm not sure I fancy a dead blackbird.
I wonder what's in the beer?
There were indeed carved vegetables on the plates of food, and they looked very nice. Unfortunately someone greedier than me ate them before I could.
When I was in Vietnam I asked some of the participants about superstitions in their culture. For example, I asked whether there were lucky or unlucky numbers in their culture. Here are some of the answers I got. The first is from a teacher who is originally from Greece: Lucky and unlucky numbers in Greece

But the rest of the food looks good. Are those carved vegetables I see?

hmm . .. have we yet discovered whether it is polite or not to eat the carved vegetables?
Apparently the answer is you shouldn't eat them - just admire them :-(
